Refund & Cancellation Policy
{# Operator note: set the LEGAL_* env vars (settings.py) to publish the trader's identity, which EU/UK distance-selling rules require alongside the withdrawal right below. #}⚠ Nothing is being charged yet. KanAssist is free during the open beta, so there is nothing to refund today. This policy, and the trader details it requires, take effect when paid plans launch.
Short version. KanAssist is free during the open beta, so there is nothing to refund yet. Once paid plans launch: subscriptions are billed monthly in advance and renew automatically; you can cancel yourself at any time and keep access until the end of the month you paid for; we give a full refund on request within 14 days of a first paid charge; and consumers in the EU and UK have a separate statutory 14-day right of withdrawal, explained in section 5.
1. Current status
KanAssist is in open beta and is provided free of charge. No payment method is collected and no charges are made, so no refund can arise. This policy describes what will apply once paid plans launch, and takes effect for any charge made on or after the effective date above.
2. How to cancel
- Cancel at any time from your account settings — the same number of steps it took to subscribe. No phone call, no retention interview, no "contact us to cancel".
- You can also cancel by emailing support@kanassist.com from the address on the account. We will action it and confirm by email.
- Cancelling stops the next automatic renewal. It takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and you keep paid features until that date.
- Cancelling does not delete your account or your data. To delete data, see the Privacy Policy.
3. When we refund
We refund in these cases:
- First-charge goodwill window. If you email us within 14 days of your first paid charge on an account and tell us KanAssist isn't for you, we refund that charge in full. No questions, no conditions. This applies once per account.
- Accidental or duplicate charge. Charged twice, charged after cancelling, or charged for seats you removed? Tell us and we refund the difference in full.
- Renewal you didn't intend. If you contact us within 7 days of an automatic renewal and you have not meaningfully used the paid features in that new period, we will refund that renewal.
- Extended outage. If the Service is materially unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours in a billing period through our fault, we refund that period pro rata on request.
- We terminate you without cause. If we end your paid subscription for a reason other than your breach of the Terms, we refund the unused portion of the period you paid for.
- Statutory rights. Any refund the law of your country gives you — see section 5.
4. When we normally don't refund
- Partial months after a cancellation, where you have used the paid features in that period (your access simply runs to the end of the period).
- Periods already elapsed and used, beyond the windows in section 3.
- Charges on accounts suspended or terminated for breach of the Terms of Service.
- Dissatisfaction with the quality of an AI-generated plan. AI output is a suggestion you review and edit; it is not a deliverable we warrant. See the AI disclaimer in the Terms.
- Charges more than 12 months old.
These are our standard practices, not a limit on your legal rights. If a case sits just outside a window and the outcome feels wrong, email us — we would rather refund than argue.
5. EU / UK consumers: 14-day right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer (buying outside your trade, business, craft, or profession) resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of entering into it, without giving a reason and without penalty. This right is in addition to everything in section 3.
How to withdraw. Send us a clear statement — email support@kanassist.com is fine — saying you are withdrawing from the contract, before the 14 days run out. You may use the model withdrawal form in section 6, but you do not have to. We will confirm receipt and refund you using the same payment method you used, without undue delay and within 14 days of receiving your notice.
Important — how immediate access affects this right. KanAssist is digital content and a digital service supplied immediately. At checkout you will be asked to (a) expressly request that we begin supplying the service straight away, during the 14-day withdrawal period, and (b) acknowledge that by doing so you lose your right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed, and that if you withdraw partway through you must pay a proportionate amount for what was supplied up to that point. If you give that consent and then withdraw within 14 days, we will refund your payment less a proportionate amount for the days of access you had. If you do not give that consent, we will not start your subscription until the 14 days have passed, and you keep the full right to withdraw and be refunded in full.
In practice, our first-charge goodwill window in section 3 is usually more generous than the statutory minimum, so for most people it is simpler to just ask for the goodwill refund. You may rely on whichever gives you the better outcome.
6. Model withdrawal form (EU/UK consumers)
Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from the contract.

7. How refunds are paid
- Refunds go back to the original payment method. We cannot refund to a different card or account.
- We process approved refunds within 5 business days. Your bank or card issuer then typically takes a further 5–10 business days to show it — that part is outside our control.
- Refunds are made in US dollars, the currency of the original charge. If your card is in another currency, the amount you receive may differ slightly because of exchange-rate movement and any fee your bank charges. We cannot compensate for that difference.
- Where tax was charged, the refund includes the tax on the refunded amount.
8. Chargebacks
Please contact us before raising a chargeback with your bank — almost everything is faster to fix directly. If you do raise one, we may suspend paid features on the account until it is resolved.
9. How to ask
Email support@kanassist.com from the address on your account with your account email and, if you have it, the invoice or charge ID. We aim to respond within 2 business days and to reach a decision within 10 business days. If we decline, we will tell you why in writing.
